Title I School-Level Parental Involvement Policy

Golden Valley High School

Golden Valley has developed a written Title I parental involvement policy with input from Title I parents. The School Site Council and the ELAC Committee met September 24, 2014 to review the policy from previous years and make changes that were applicable. Both committees consist of parents, staff members, and students. The committees voted on the changes and the policy was distributed to parents of Title 1 students at Back to School Night. The policy is also available on campus in our Parent Liaison Office, and in our Counseling Office. Both of these school offices over bilingual assistance. The policy describes the means for carrying out the following Title I parental involvement requirements [20 USC 6318 Section 1118(a)-(f) inclusive].

Involvement of Parents in the Title I Program

To involve parents in the Title I program at Golden Valley, the following practices have been established:

  • During registration in early spring the annual Cougar Fair is held and parents of incoming Freshmen are spoken to about Title 1 programs as well as other programs offered at Golden Valley.
  • Round Up is held in August and parents are given Title 1 information during this time.
  • Back to School Night is held in September and MUHSD pamphlets are disbursed to parents and remain on display throughout the school year.

The school offers a flexible number of meetings for Title I parents, such as meetings in the afternoon or evening. Child care is offered at all the parent meetings, workshops, and events.

The school provides parents of Title I students with timely information about Title I programs.

The school provides parents of Title I students with an explanation of the curriculum used at the school, the assessments used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet.

  • If requested by parents of Title I students, the school provides opportunities for regular meetings that allow the parents to participate in decisions relating to the education of their children.
  • SSC and ELAC meetings are held one a month in room B-6 on Golden Valley Campus. Meetings begin at 3:30 p.m. and conclude at 5:30 p.m.
