Community Service

Golden Valley High School offers a Silver Cord Award Program for students who participate in Community Service Activities. The Silver Cord is awarded at graduation to those students who have completed 250 hours of Community Service.


  • The City of Merced offers lots of neat opportunities for you to give back to your community. You have to first create a Volunteer Profile, which is not difficult, and then you can see and register for the various Volunteer Events that are available. Each will give a brief description and details about the event. You just sign up online. Easy!
  • Golden Valley Health Centers is looking for Volunteer Greeters at our SENIOR HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER. Contact RAYNA RUIZ at (209) 385-5483 to learn more about becoming a Volunteer Greeter
  • If you are at least 16 years old, consider volunteering with the Merced SPCA located at 1021 E. Childs Avenue. Email
  • The Merced Courthouse Museum is in need of volunteers. Call (209) 723-2401 or email
  • Consider volunteering at the Merced County Library. Check out the group application or the individual volunteer application.


The "Community Service Form" on Google Classroom will remain open until a deadline is verified and announced.
Hours prior to May 2020 will no longer be accepted.

How do you turn in your hours?
    * Add the "Community Service Google Classroom"
    * Locate the assignment for the month
    * Complete the Google Form
    * Take a picture of your completed community service log (Signed with supervisors contact number)
       Ensure you use the updated log and it is completed clearly in PEN.
    * Upload the picture of your community service log to the bottom of the Google form and submit.
